Three-Dimensional Mid-Air Acoustic Manipulation
Tech demo of setup able to levitate, control and maneuver small light objects in a 3D space using ultrasound waves, defying gravity - video embedded below:
The essence of levitation technology is the countervailing of gravity. It is known that an ultrasound standing wave is capable of suspending small particles at its sound pressure nodes and, so far, this method has been used to levitate lightweight particles, small creatures, and water droplets.
The acoustic axis of the ultrasound beam in these previous studies was parallel to the gravitational force, and the levitated objects were manipulated along the fixed axis (i.e. one-dimensionally) by controlling the phases or frequencies of bolted Langevin-type transducers. In the present study, we considered extended acoustic manipulation whereby millimetre-sized particles were levitated and moved three-dimensionally by localised ultrasonic standing waves, which were generated by ultrasonic phased arrays. Our manipulation system has two original features. One is the direction of the ultrasound beam, which is arbitrary because the force acting toward its centre is also utilised. The other is the manipulation principle by which a localised standing wave is generated at an arbitrary position and moved three-dimensionally by opposed and ultrasonic phased arrays. We experimentally confirmed that various materials could be manipulated by our proposed method.

It’s so easy to dismiss the idea of feminism, if you already live in a decent society which has come far in terms of equal rights for women. Think about what feminist campaigns have done for us so far: your right to own land, to vote, to wear what you want, to get equal payment for the same job as males, and your reproductive rights.
Search up the concept feminism: it’s simply seeking to establish the same rights for women as there is for men. So that I, have the same rights to do whatever I want as any other person, without being limited by my gender (which I did not choose myself). It’s not about demonizing men or blaming just men for our problems. It’s a society problem.
Yes, there are some people that take things to extremes, bend facts and define feminism so that it best benefits them. And that’s were the fairly reasonable of us should step in. That’s when you got to spread enlightenment, not hatred. Check out the history, it’s called feminism for a reason and we’ve come far. But many countries are still behind on equal rights for females, but also for males. They’re not equal rights if they don’t concern both sexes, you know.
I, as a person, am not a target for violence and there is no war against me. I don’t define myself as my gender, I do what I want. As fortunate I am to live in a country where I have equal rights as men, I can chill out and be happy knowing that my gender won’t be a hindrance for me when I want to apply for a certain job.
But for all those females, living under less fortunate circumstances, do they need feminism campaigns?
And what about men? Do they need feminism? If I was a man I’d like my mother, my wife, my sisters, my daughters to have the same rights as their husbands, brothers and sons. I would want my SO to be my equal.
It’s time to revise men’s rights as well, so desperately needed in terms of domestic and sexual assault, and also how the media portraits the idea of “manliness” in general.
It’s all about equality.
